FULL STORY: WOW, Mississippi Republicans break ranks and call out ICE over detained brothers.
Two brothers from the Republic of Congo, Israel (18) and Max (15) Makoka, were detained by ICE in Mississippi while literally waiting for their school bus.
They transferred from a private school to a public school. That transfer automatically voided their visas, but they were never informed it would.
ICE picked them up on April 21, 2026, zip-tied them in front of classmates, and separated them into different states.
And this is the part that’s driving people crazy, including Republican politicians:
They were not accused of any crime, and their lawyer says they were “out of status” but didn’t know it.
They still don’t know who reported them.
What we do know is this didn’t happen because they were dangerous, it happened because of a technicality they didn’t even know existed.
Then, they put an ankle monitor on one of the brothers to track him like he’s a convicted criminal. He wasn’t charged with anything. He didn’t do anything wrong.
Republican Mayor Anna Liese said: “We tend to think that things like this only happen in big cities and Sanctuary cities, but not here in our backyard, and it’s, it’s shocking when it does.”
When you have Republican representatives in Mississippi making calls and speaking out against these brothers being detained, you know something has shifted.
Everyone can see this was wrong. Even conservatives are starting to break from the extreme rhetoric when it hits their own communities.
And that matters. Because what they do at the ballot box this fall is something to watch.
When big policies stop being abstract and start hitting close to home, that’s when people stop cheering and start changing.
This whole thing is WRONG. This is NOT who we are as a country, we can do better!
Who do you think reported them?
