Former President Bill Clinton released a video message Wednesday saying he will be around “for a lot longer” after being hospitalized the previous week with sepsis.
Clinton, 76, spent seven days at UC Irvine Medical Centre receiving treatment for a urological infection that spread to his bloodstream. He posted the video to his Twitter account thanking hospital staff and expressing gratitude for the support he received during his stay.
“I was so touched by the outpouring of support I received during my stay in the hospital,” Clinton said in the video. “I’d also like to thank the doctors and nurses at UC Irvine Medical Centre for the absolutely wonderful care that they gave me over the last seven days.”
Clinton’s Recovery
The former president said he is returning home to New York to complete a course of antibiotics. “I am really glad to be back home. I’m doing great, enjoying this beautiful fall weather. I’m on the road to recovery,” Clinton said.
Alpesh Amin, chair of the Department of Medicine at UC Irvine Medical Centre, confirmed that Clinton’s fever and white blood cell count have normalized. An aide told the Associated Press that Clinton never experienced septic shock and is on the mend.
Clinton’s Message
Clinton used the opportunity to encourage others to prioritize their health. “I want to remind everyone out there: Take the time to listen to your bodies and care for yourselves,” he said.
The former president also stated his intention to remain active. “I, for one, am going to do my best to be around, to keep doing the most good I can, for a lot longer,” Clinton said in the video.
